Dental Implants
Choosing the right restoration method for a missing tooth can be daunting. While you want to fill the gap in your smile, appearance is not the only factor you need to address. Will the replacement tooth last a long time? What is the healthiest option available?
Dr. Paul F. DiMattia & Associates offer many options for tooth replacement, including dental implants. A Dental implant is considered one of the healthiest options and one of the most popular, as it feels the closest to having a real tooth again.
Implants return the patient to a normal life, allowing for restoration of regular chewing, smiling, laughing, and talking.
Dental implants are considered the healthiest option because they replace the root and the tooth. A titanium screw is placed in the jawbone where the lost root was. The screw recreates the bone stimulation that the root once provided. This stimulation keeps the bone density in the jaw stable.
When lost teeth are not replaced as soon as possible, the bone density begins to deteriorate at a rate of 20% during the first year of tooth loss. After that year, the bone density will continue to decline.
An implant is made of three components – the screw, the abutment piece, and the crown – and can take up to six months to be totally healed, but normal life returns almost immediately after the implant is placed.
